On the 12th of April we had our Inquiry presentation day. On this day lots of parents came to see what all we have learnt in Term 1 of 2019. We were learning about All About Me and then moved further on to how we relate to Glen Innes Community by listing and learning about some of our landmarks.
As a class we brainstormed our individual landmarks. We looked at what, where, why, who, when, how and few other related questions when we were researching about our individual landmarks. Then the teacher collated all our research and figured out that there are 6 common landmarks Room 8 children were very keen to learn and research about.
The 6 common landmarks included Pak & Save, McDonalds, KFC, Glen Innes Police Station, Te Oro and Pizza Hut.
Our presentation was about - All About Me... where we had to learn to introduce ourselves in Maori "Our Mihi". We also did a booklet for our Mihi. Our teacher recorded us saying our Mihi too. It was bit challenging saying our Mihi in Maori but at the same time we had fun too.
As for our landmark we made little videos and collated all our research to display what all we have learnt. Apart from research we either painted or made a model of our 6 landmarks. It was up to the group what they wanted to do. We also did Unity in Diversity model since in Glen Innes there are lots of different cultures of people living in harmony.
Below is a video to show how our presentation day went.
We are Year 3/4 students at Glen Innes School in Auckland, New Zealand and our teacher is Ms Kumar.

Our Rainbow Bracelets - Writing
It was one of the best days in my
writing lesson.
Last last week my class and my teacher
made bracelets we made it at school on Thursday.
We used elastics bands and took it to
our table to make it. We had colorful beads. We had 20 small size beads, 10
medium size beads and one big size bead.
We put on our elastic bands and Miss
Kumar took photos of us wearing our bracelets. We displayed our bracelets on
the class wall. It looks very attractive. We also made a video and uploaded it
on our class blog so people who go on our blog get to see what we are doing in
class.
We felt excited, proud and happy
because Miss Kumar showed us what to do so we can copy her. She also said that
we will be taking the bracelets home to show it to our parents.

Our
Rainbow Bracelets
On Thursday we made some rainbow bracelets. Mrs Kumar called us one by
one and measured our wrist. After Mrs Kumar measured our wrist she told us
to take 20 small colourful beads and 15 medium size colourful beads. Then Mrs Kumar
told us to take it to our table
We asked for help to start our bracelets because when we put on our
beads on it kept on coming off. So we asked three people to help so we can
finish our bracelets.
First, we made a knot at the end of the bracelet elastic band. Next we
put the beads on the bracelet but first we had to think how to thread our
bracelets. When we thought how to thread our bracelets we all made different
kinds of them. It was fun making a pattern.
Lastly we had to tie a knot at the end of the string and then we put it
on our wrist and Mrs Kumar took photos of us with our bracelets. We felt very
happy that we made the bracelets because we have not made a rainbow bracelets
in school before.

Our Rainbow Bracelets
This week Room 8 learners made bracelets using different colours of beads, which the teacher bought from Look Sharp store. After making the bracelets the learners were to write a recount how they made it by giving lots of details. It was challenging for some as they found putting the elastic cord in the holes quite difficult. Some even had their beads falling off from the other end of the chord. However it was nice to see learners assisting each other and coming up with a vibrant colours of bracelets which look like rainbow. Above is a little video to show how their bracelets look like.
Remembering Christchurch
15th of March is certainly the darkest days according to our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern for all the New Zealanders. This is because our Muslim Community lost 50 of their loved ones as they gathered to pray on Friday (Jumma Day).
Whole of New Zealand mourned with the Christchurch Community by providing necessities to the needy, showing their love and compassion in so many different ways as possible.
On 22nd of March at 1.32pm the nation in unity prayed for the lost souls. Most of the ladies in solidarity wore scarf to support the Muslim Community. Below is a picture of how our school got together and prayed for the lost souls. May those beautiful souls rest in peace.

Swimming Sports
"It was just awesome"
This morning we as a junior syndicate took part in the Swimming Sport Competition. It was more of having fun and kind of celebrating the last day of swimming. Year 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 got to display what they have learnt so far in their swimming lessons. Mainly the skills were displayed and we were so proud as most of our parents also came to see our swimming. The 3 main categories were
1. Swimming the whole length without touching the floor of the swimming pool.
2. Swimming from one end to the other with and in this race learners were allowed to touch the floor of the swimming pool.
3. Freestyle swimming and learners were allowed to use the swimming board.
It was a great experience for most of the learners as they gave their 100 percent to make the class and themselves proud.

Chinese Lantern for Chinese Festival
On Friday I made a Chinese Lantern.
So how we made it we used Glue, Scissors, A4 color paper and lastly sellotape.
So we started by using the A4 color paper and folded it in a hot dog and use the scissors to cut straps but not fully. Then you unfold the color paper. Then you roll the paper and glue the end and stick it together. Next we used white A4 paper and cut a strap and glue the ends and stick it on the lantern. Also we then used sellotape and hung it in our teacher's space.

We made colourful paper lantern. I liked how we sticked it up. It was so beautiful we made these on Friday. I liked this because it was my first time making chinese lantern. We used glue, A4 coloured paper, scissors and sellotape. We didn't finish making it so the next day we made it in the morning. It looked like a real lantern but it is made out of paper. You can make it with any coloured paper. Lots of people knew how to make it after Mrs Kumar showed us. We were so happy once it was finished and hung in the class. Some people learnt it from Skids. Some people made it for the first time. Once it was done I saw everyone were so excited even I felt happy.

To make a Chinese Lantern you need some colourful A4 paper. Then you put it in landscape and fold the top. After that you cut the folded part so it is almost at the end and do that all the way along the piece of paper until it is finished then unfolded it and put the ends together and glue it. Then to make the handle you cut a strip of paper and glue it on the top of it.

Djando came back to our school today. While Andy was taking him for a walk, the funniest thing Djando did was - within a split of a second he ran and jumped into the pool. Cheeky Djando!
It was a warm day too. Heather reacted quickly and took him out of the pool.
Andy's reaction was caught as well on Heather's iphone.

At 10.45am we were at the astroturf with the ripper rugby coaches. We went to play Ripper Rugby on Thursday 28th of February 2019 as a class.
First Fraser and Sinclair gave us a belt then they gave us colorful rippers. Then we played a game - how you play? You run around and try to get the coloured strap off other kids waist. Then we played another game called ripper runner. It was a fun game but then we also played another game. The game was like octopus. It was really fun, the winner was Legin. He was the fastest boy in the class.
Then we finished the game and room 9 came for their turn with the coaches. I like both games because it reminds me about rugby. We finished our lesson at 11.20am.

Ripper Rugby
When we played Ripper Rugby we played on the astroturf on the senior side where the senior kids do sports like basketball and soccer and also football. I felt so excited and nervous when I first got there. The person that showed us how to play the game there names was Sinclaire and Fraser. We started at 10:45am and we finished at 11;20pm.
Our training towards - How to play Ripper Rugby.
To play Ripper Rugby you had to find a those velcro belts and a sticky tag to stick on you and your friends or cousins or your older siblings. The student in Room 8 who won the game was Legin because he had one more life and that’s how Legin won the game called Ripper Rugby. When I first played the game it looked kind of hard at the last game but the first game was easy.

On Thursday we lined up and we went to the turf to play a game. There were two mans standing there and taught us how to play the game. We had to put a black belts on and put two different colours of tags on each side.
Then we had to run around the turf and you had to try to take the tags off the belt. We kept on going into the whistle rings and it was so fun.
Then the second game is ripper tag. There had to be three people who were taggers. They were Eloida, Finau, and Snowlee. We also had to run on the other side to win. I won the first round and second round and up to fourth then I was chosen to be a tager. There was 18 more people to tag and all of them got tagged but Legin was still running and he won the whole game. He was happy.
